BEACHES
Kurnell Dog Beach
This large open beach south of Sydney is well worth a visit, but just make sure to check that you visit during the dog friendly times.
Sirius Cove, Mosman
Sirius Cove has such a great dog beach, it’s safe and away from roads. It can get very, very busy on weekends with people and dogs though.
Tip: check the tides, there’s so much more beach to explore when the tide is out.
Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve, Curl Curl
What a great spot! This dog beach is to the left of the Reserve on a sand bank with lots of room for the dogs to run and play. This can get very busy on the weekend, aim to go midweek and have fun meeting the friendly locals!
Tip: Explore the path parallel to the main beach for an extra walk.
Rose Bay
What a beautiful dog beach - If you don’t mind sharing your beach with lots of dogs… Rose Bay is perfect for a day out with you best friend! Like most of Sydney though, it does get very busy on the weekend!
Tip: If you like paddle boarding and want to teach your dog or learn yourself, this is a great place to do it!
HIKES
Bidjigal Reserve, North Shore of Sydney
A 5km loop walk, this place is heaven to explore no matter what the season. Jump stepping stones over streams, explore well-trodden paths through amazing forest terrain, and dip your toes into one of the many water pools. There are a lot of walks through Bidjigal Reserve but our go to for directions every time is the Burraga Track step-by-step guide with a map included.
Tip: Dogs must remain on-lead and we always take our Wolf & I Co. 6ft leash for this walk.
Harold Reid Reserve, Middle Cove
What a beautiful part of Sydney - it’s a little bit of heaven walking here! We take the main track which guides us through lots of different terrain, the best being the foreshore. In total the main track is around 5km but you can do lots of smaller walks which are all equally as beautiful.
Tip: Ensure you have water and poop bags, there aren’t any available.
Two Creek Track Lindfield
Two Creek Track is another great short or long walk through the beautiful Aussie bush. The complete track is 13.2km one way but we just enjoy parts of the track and once we’ve had enough for the day, wander back. It’s a really nice, easy path with plenty to see. We love the little waterfalls and Alma likes to explore the river, finding shallow parts to paddle.
Tip: Ensure you have water and poop bags, there aren’t any available.Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk
What a walk and what a view! The whole walk gives fantastic, breathtaking views the entire way. This track is 6km one way, however, we do cheat slightly for the free parking and dog park on Clovelly Road. We then walk to Bondi, as it’s only one cove away from Coogee and you can still easily stop there too. We always start early for this walk to beat the heat (and the people). We head to Speedos Café on the northern end of Bondi Beach and grab an outside seat with epic views of the iconic Bondi Beach whilst enjoying an amazing breakfast.
Tip: There are lots of dogs to dodge on the narrow path.
Narrabeen Lagoon
The Narrabeen Lagoon Circuit Walk totals 8.4km around the beautiful lake. You’ll find yourself meandering over wooden walkways, through native bushland and across steel bridges. This walk is a very popular destination.
Tip: If you enjoy paddle board this is a great spot for it too!
Lake Parramatta
There are three tracks to pick from but to walk the entire circuit is 4.2km. This is another great hike with lots to see and explore. We hired a rowing boat on this lake, the company were happy for Alma to come aboard and she loved it, it was a great introduction to boats and water for her.
THE ULTIMATE DOGGY DAY TRIP
Watson's Bay
Our favourite day trip in Sydney is a trip to Watsons Bay. You can easily catch the ferry from most of Sydney’s ferry ports to this beautiful bay. Every time we adventure here it always feel like we are on holiday.
We leave a little later in the day as we aim to catch the sunset and it takes about an hour from Pyrmont for the ferry ride to Watsons Bay. Head straight from the ferry port to The Gap Lookout and then right along the Federation Cliff Walk to Dover Heights.
This hike is about 5km (one way) of unspoilt sea cliff walking. Soak up the breathtaking views as you walk past a small lighthouse. Our favourite pub in the whole of Sydney is also here, Watsons Bay Hotel. The hotel is right next to the ferry port and we always book a table as it does get very busy.
It is situated right on the water front looking over the bay to the Harbour Bridge and city and has such pretty sunsets. We always feel as though we are at a Spanish Bar with summer cocktails, amazing food and a great atmosphere. A perfect place to end up after such a good hike, not to mention, the extensive garden is completely dog friendly.
What we take on our adventures:
- A ball
- A long line leash
- Water bottle for Alma
- Treats in a treat pouch (Almas lunch)
- Leash and collar (we love and use every day Wolf & I Co’s rope dog leash)
- A long lasting treat, Pigs ear for our picnic
- Poop bags
