Holidaying with Dogs in Byron Bay

Posted by Wolf & I Co. on Jul 10, 2021

If exploring one of the best places on the east coast of Australia whilst getting sandy toes on amazing beaches, eating your heart out in Byron cafes and breathing in amazing views on hikes all with your best friend by you side is up your street then read on!

We asked Alma (@alma_the_lappie) & family to share their recent Byron Bay holiday with us, and it’s got to be said, if you’re thinking of a road trip to Byron, it’s totally worth bringing your dog along. Read on for all Alma’s favourite dog friendly places in and around Byron Bay.

ALMA’S FAVE BEACHES TO EXPLORE

Belongil Beach: The best beach in Byron! Closest to Byron Bay town centre this beach has a long stretch for doggos like me to play and it's one of my favourite beaches. The further you walk the quieter and prettier it gets.

Tallow Beach: Walk the footpath over Tallow Creek Bridge and up to the beach where there's a limited dog friendly section but the beach is really beautiful and fun to play on.

Tip: Free car park just before Ingenia Holiday Park on Bangalow Road, Take a ball!

Brunswick Heads Main Beach: Dog friendly on a small section of the beach. Very pretty beach with lots of dogs for me to play with.

Tip: Free car park right next to the beach, just put Brunswick Heads beach into google maps.

Seven Mile Beach: It was just that, seven miles of free running, dog friendly, amazing beach! I walked with my hoomans until my heart was content. Another favourite and well worth the trip!

NB: This is a 4x4 beach, the beach is very wide and the 4x4’s didn’t bother my hoomans or me but just be aware that there are vehicles on the beach. Bonus if you have a 4x4, you can get a permit for access from the machine on the road side.

ALMA’S FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT

Byron Fresh Cafe: Great for breaky! We went a few times for breakfast and it was outstanding. I was allowed to sit next to my pawrents on a booth sofa seat which was cool.

Miss Margarita: Amazing Mexican food, very well priced and one of the best Mexicans we have had to date. Staff were great and the restaurant was dog friendly on the front veranda which was perfect for me to people watch and get lots of pats!

Foxy Luu’s: Asian street food, delicious food at a great price. Try a bit of everything and you won't be disappointed. Dog friendly with outside seats, slightly further away from the sea but worth the walk!

The Farm: Book a table at The Farm’s restaurant to ensure you don’t miss out and indulge in great home cooked food made with their home grown produce fresh from the garden. All outdoor seating so perfect for me to sit with the hoomans. Tip: Ring ahead to book a table as they do get very busy and booked up quickly.

OTHER FUN PLACES ALMA LIKED EXPLORING:

Burringbar Rail Tunnel Hike: A bit further out of Byron is this magical hidden track. A completely dog friendly walk and free parking! Follow this disused railway line to an amazing (approx. 1 km) railway tunnel, inside we saw small bats and glow worms in the darkest of parts. If you’re up for an adventure and something different this walk is great, it’s also pretty quiet. Tip: Find it off the corner of bloodwood road and tunnel road, take a torch with you, a phone torch doesn’t work to well.

The Farm: A dog friendly farm just for dogs like me! Such a great place to explore with a small amount of animals to practise exposure to different animals. I had to stay on my Wolf & I Co. leash at all times but was free to explore and there is so much to see and smell. They grow so much produce here and also have the best restaurant for food. Definitely worth the visit and free parking too!

Tip : There are bees here but easy enough to avoid.
